This was our presentation in Studio Projektirane, Sofia, 24th April 2015

Next stop of our presentation tour was in Sofia. The event was hosted by Studio Projektirane, a studio and workshop space in the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy. After a short lecture about book related topics, Vladiya Mihaylova talked together with the author Vasilena Gankovska and the artist Luchezar Boyadjiev about the themes which the book opens up for a broader discussion. The presentation ended with a vivid talk with the audience about the problems of the contemporary Bulgarian city and especially Sofia and its visual interface.

The first public presentation of the book “Visual Strategies. Urban Space reformulated” happend a few days ago in Vienna. It was hosted by Hilger NEXT Gallery, which was also the organiser of the street art project Cash, Cans & Candy – – a street art project by Gallery Ernst Hilger, curated by Katrin-Sophie Dworczak, part of which is featured in the book. A short talk with some of the represented artists and contributors gave a more profound insight into the concept, the working process and the topics discussed in it.

Jan Blaschko
Artist and blogger (Street and Urban Art). Exhibitions and projects in Vienna, Bilbao, Barcelona, London, Udine, Prague. Lives and works in Vienna.

Luchezar Boyadjiev
In his artistic projects, Boyadjiev deals with the interpretation of the public within politics, culture, urbanism and history. Founding member of ICA Sofia.
Lives and works in Sofia.

Vasilena Gankovska
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the National Art Academy in Sofia. In her work she explores the visual strategies in the urban space, advertising and various TV genres, She presents her visual notes in images, stencils, short videos as well as texts. The results of these visual investigations have been shown in various projects and exhibitions. Lives and works in Vienna and Sofia.

Boris Kostadinov
Curator and art critic. He has been contributing to the following magazines: Kultura (Bulgaria), GQ (UK), Flash Art und Abitare (Italy), FAQ Magazin, Falter und Vienna Review (Austria) and others.
Lives and works in Vienna and Sofia.

Sandra Kosel
Her photographic projects explore the urban space and the interplay between public and private. Founder of the webplattform utopics. Lives and works in Vienna.

Vladiya Mihailova
Curator and cultural theorist. Since 2007 curator at Vaska Emanouilova Gallery, Sofia. University lecturer at Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski“. Publications in various catalogues and art editions. Lives and works in Sofia.

Ivan Moudov
Graduated from the National Art Academy in Sofia. He has realised various projects and exhibitions throughout his artistic career. Lives and works in Sofia.

Andreas Spiegl
Studied art history at the Vienna University. Since 1990 university lecturer at the Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. His working topics connect space theory questions with suject and media theory. Various publications on art, art theory and media theory. In addition he works as freelance curator and art critic. Lives and works in Vienna.

Kamen Stoyanov
He explores the notion of the public and the art production within contemporary art practice. Various solo and group exhibitions and projects. Lives and works in Vienna and Sofia.

Yotto Bano
Born in Europe. Practices art in the public space – painting on walls and hairy bellies. Available for commission work.
